SCN bridges the gap between traditional educational methods and telecommunications-based education and training.

By combining advanced technology with quality teaching, the University of Regina, University of Saskatchewan , Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST), Correspondence School, and some high schools are able to extend their programs to receive sites across the province.

Regional colleges manage SCN Centres in approximately 55 communities and provide learner support and counseling for students. In addition, there are 64 high schools, four SIAST sites, and 25 others equipped to receive one-way video and two-way audio live interactive programming by satellite.

Receive sites are equipped with KuBand satellite dish, satellite tuning receiver, decoder unit, television monitor, video cassette recorder, telephone, and facsimile machine. In high demand centres, duplicate rooms have been installed, allowing two classes to be received simultaneously.

A variety of televised distance education courses are offered every year by the University of Saskatchewan, University of Regina, and the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST) and the Correspondence School.

You can take a televised course without having to travel to a main campus in Saskatoon, Regina or Moose Jaw far from your home community.

As a student in a televised course, you will meet at a local SCN receive site at the designated time to view a televised presentation, participate in local and televised discussions, and interact with your course instructor and other students throughout the province.

Many of the courses listed in the post secondary brochure can be transferred for credit from one institution to another. Depending on your area of study, you may be able to combine classes from different institutions to fit your program.

Please check transfer credit with the institution to which you would like to transfer a class(es) before you register for a class at another institution.

For more information, you can contact the institution directly or ask for help from your local regional college or SIAST Institute office.
